Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Dee Gordon came to Spring Training this season after gaining about 15 pounds and looking to win the starting second base job.

Cuban infielder Alex Guerrero was slowed by a hamstring injury in winter ball and Gordon showed that he was able to handle playing the position. In the last week or so, Gordon has seen an increase in playing time with the big league team while Guerrero has been jettisoned to the back fields and minor league intrasquad games.

After leading off with a bunt single in today’s game against the Chicago Cubs, Gordon came up with two outs and Miguel Rojas at third in the top of the fifth inning. After working the count to 3-2, Gordon turned on a fastball and smacked one down the right field line for an RBI triple.

It was Gordon’s third triple of the spring, fourth RBI as he now has nine hits in 36 plate appearances.
