Dodgers: Mookie Betts Returns to Lineup Weighing Slightly Less

Mookie Betts had a rough week with the Dodgers. The star right-fielder contracted food poisoning early last week and had to sit out several games. Betts makes his return to the lineup tonight as Los Angeles takes on Milwaukee at Camelback Ranch.

It was a scary time for Betts to be sick, as the coronavirus hysteria has already started to sweep through Major League Baseball. Betts was a late scratch from last Friday’s game, and Dave Roberts wasn’t sure how long he would be out. After a visit with team doctors, the Dodgers decided to hold him out until tonight.

The food poisoning also had Mookie looking a little bit different physically. He was cleared by the Dodgers’ medical staff, but the illness made Mookie lose some weight in the process. We’ll let you connect the dots on how that happened.

For the Dodgers, it couldn’t be a better time for Mookie to return. We are now just over two weeks away from Opening Day, and Betts only has twenty-one plate appearances logged this spring. Look for the Dodgers to find ways to get him as many at-bats as they can to get him prepared for March 26th.

Thus far, Betts is five for nineteen with one extra-base hit and one run driven in. He has earned one walk and one sacrifice fly in spring. Betts has also yet to strike out in his limited spring showing with the Dodgers.

The Dodgers acquired Mookie Betts and David Price in exchange for prospects in February.

  1. Man I would hope the Dodgers would have access to top quality food at all times. Glad he is back

  2. What is it with Dodgers players getting food poisoning all the time? They’ve had it a couple times in Frisco (obviously a giants fan gave it to them) and it’s happened in spring training before this time too. People trying to slow us down
