Dodgers News: 2014 Opening Day Roster Officially Announced

[new_royalslider id=”46″] Although the Los Angeles Dodgers have already played two regular season games, the roster situation was a bit different in Australia, with a few players staying in the United States that would normally be on the roster.

Today, the Dodgers restart their 2014 season and have officially announced their 2014 Opening Day roster via their official Twitter account:

There were no surprises on the final roster than what was anticipated after the series of moves in recent days. Clayton Kershaw, Josh Beckett and Matt Kemp begin the year on the disabled list and may be activated in the coming weeks, meaning that the Dodgers will have some decisions to make once that time comes.

Some of the bigger surprises in terms of general decisions from the spring come at catcher and in the bullpen. Drew Butera replaces Tim Federowicz as the team’s backup catcher, that many believe occurred because of Butera’s lack of an option. In the bullpen, many believed that Brandon League had seen his last days as a member of the Dodgers after a rough spring and being left off the travel roster for Australia. He may found himself without a job once Kershaw and Beckett return, but will be given another chance to prove he belongs on the team.

Two players that signed minor league deals in the off-season made the roster in Justin Turner and Chone Figgins. Turner is expected to be a part of a platoon at second base with Dee Gordon, while Figgins returns to the major leagues after spending the 2013 season without a job. He will be a versatile player off the bench for manager Don Mattingly. Mike Baxter also makes the cut after joining the Dodgers via trade this winter, although the return of Kemp could push him off later.
