Dodgers News: Baseball Prospectus’ Top 10 Team Prospects

So, every year the major baseball publication website produces their prospect content. It’s glorious. It’s a whirlwind of information and greatness that everyone should read because it’s truly sensational. Well, they released the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Top 10 Prospects today, and the usual suspects were there.

As you would expect, the top prospect in baseball is Corey Seager so of course he leads off the team’s actual top ten list because duh. And it should be no shock that Julio Urias followed him directly on that list, as well. They’re two of the top five prospects in the entire game, so they should be that high.

From Christopher Crawford and the Baseball Prospectus Staff:

  1. SS Corey Seager
  2. LHP Julio Urias
  3. RHP Jose De Leon
  4. RHP Grant Holmes
  5. RHP Frankie Montas
  6. RHP Yadier Alvarez
  7. OF Alex Verdugo
  8. OF Yusniel Diaz
  9. 1B/OF Cody Bellinger
  10. RHP Jharel Cotton

There’s your Los Angeles Dodgers Top 10 Prospects. Nothing really is too shocking here. It seems like a great order, and a lot of the information provided for each prospect was published in their Baseball Prospectus 2016 book. As an aside, pick up the book. Seriously, buy it. It’s fantastic. So much quality stuff in there.

Among the players that made the “Five who are just interesting” category were Walker Buehler, Yaisel Sierra, Jordan Paroubeck, Jacob Rhame, and Mitch Hanson. Rhame is out for a while with a broken left forearm, so we won’t see much of him until later in the season.

How good is the farm system, though? Well:

The State of the System: Is this the best system money can buy? No, but it’s one of the best in baseball.

That’s a fact. The Los Angeles Dodgers do possess one of the best systems in baseball, and a lot of it does have to do with their ability to outspend other teams. But that’s a luxury that shouldn’t be taken for granted. If they want an international free agent, they usually get him. There’s nothing wrong with that.

We’ll see how well the current crop of talent pans out in the future, but if they turn out like a lot of people expect them to turn out then the team will have a pipeline of great players rolling through and creating a pseudo-dynasty that other teams would grow quite envious of in short order.
