The trade deadline came and went as the Dodgers didn’t make any important moves, but they did trade for Twins catcher Drew Butera for a player to be named later.

Butera has only played in two games with the Twins this season and has only five career home runs in four years in Minneapolis. Currently, Butera was playing with the Twins Triple-A affiliate in Rochester and according to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, the Dodgers acquired the catcher for cheap:

The addition of Butera sounds like it’s purely for organizational depth as he could be the third catcher come September as the Dodgers did most of their wheeling and dealing earlier.

General manager Ned Colletti already traded for Ricky Nolasco and Carlos Marmol while they signed reliever Brian Wilson as they could look to make a bigger trade in August.

With the Diamondbacks making an interesting move in trading Ian Kennedy to the Padres, the Dodgers are in a good position with the 3.5 game lead they currently own.
