Dodgers Video: Jose Peraza’s Glove Toss Starts Key Double Play

The expected pitchers’ duel between Madison Bumgarner and Zack Greinke lived up to its billing Tuesday night as runs were at a premium for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants.

San Francisco threatened in the second inning behind a Buster Posey leadoff infield single and Jose Peraza two-out error on a pop up in shallow right field that left runners on the corners with two outs. However, Bumgarner was unable to help himself as he popped out to Peraza on a similar play Kelby Tomlinson reached on.

The Dodgers had a man reach in the bottom of the second, but failed to do anything with it. They didn’t make the same mistake in the third inning, however as Adrian Gonzalez’s RBI single gave them a 1-0 lead.

With the score at 2-0 in the Dodgers’ favor heading into the eighth inning, Greinke surprisingly remained on the mound. Pinch-hitter Gregor Blanco, Angel Pagan and Matt Duffy combined for a trio of one-out base hits, with Duffy’s scoring a run and cutting the Dodgers’ lead to 2-1.

That would be all for Greinke as Luis Avilan was called on to face Brandon Belt. The Giants first baseman fouled off multiple pitches before hitting a ball up the middle that Peraza made a backhanded stop on and glove toss to Jimmy Rollins for the start of an inning-ending double play.
