3 Dodgers Win Silver Slugger Awards, While LA Wins Team Award After Dominant Season

Major League Baseball has officially announced the Silver Slugger award winners — and the Los Angeles Dodgers are well-represented.

Shohei Ohtani (designated hitter), Teoscar Hernández, (outfield), and Mookie Betts (utility) all won Silver Slugger awards for their 2024 seasons. For Betts, it’s his seventh career Silver Slugger award and fourth with the Dodgers. For Ohtani and Hernández, it’s their third Silver Slugger awards, and, of course, first with the Dodgers.

Ohtani’s win is no surprise as he had one of the best offensive seasons in MLB history. Ohtani led the National League in home runs (54), runs batted in (130), on-base percentage (.390), slugging percentage (.646), OPS (1.036), and total bases (411). He invented the 50 home run, 50 stolen base club, and redefined what it means to be an all-around player.

As for Hernández, he joined the Dodgers on a one-year deal after he failed to get the multiyear contract offers he hoped for last offseason. He raised his value and then some in Los Angeles, hitting a career-high 33 home runs with 99 RBIs and an OPS of .840. He made his second career All-Star team and even won the Home Run Derby. He’s made it clear he wants to be back in L.A. for the long haul.

Finally there’s Betts, who was on an MVP pace before breaking his hand on a hit by pitch in June. However, Betts still appeared in 116 regular season games, slashing .289/.372/.491 with 19 home runs and 75 RBIs.

In addition to the personal Silver Slugger awards, the Dodgers won the Offensive Team of the Year Silver Slugger award in the National League.
