Braves Could Poach Dodgers Coach to Be Next Manager

The biggest compliment an organization can get is when opposing teams actively try to poach your talent.

In the case of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the franchise is widely considered to be the golden standard within the sport of baseball. It only seems conventional that other squads would want to reveal “the secret sauce of success” by luring coaches, scouts, or even players from the boys in blue.

Mark Bowman of MLB.com dove into some of the upcoming offseason musings as it pertains to the Atlanta Braves. With Brian Snitker no longer at the helm, Atlanta is in the market for a new skipper. One of the names that’s reportedly been gaining traction recently is Los Angeles Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehmann.

“As for Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehmann, his candidacy has seemingly strengthened over the past couple weeks. Lehmann was Los Angeles’ advance video scout when Anthopoulos was with the Dodgers from 2016-17. The two have remained in contact over the years that have followed.

“With the Dodgers set to begin their World Series battle against the Blue Jays on Friday, Lehmann’s candidacy could lead to the Braves waiting into November before announcing their next manager.”

Lehmann’s path to the Dodgers has been an interesting one. The 40-year-old was drafted by the Minnesota Twins out of Rice University in 2007. After a handful of years toiling around in the minor leagues, Lehmann turned to coaching — where he’s been with the Dodgers since 2015.

Lehmann has made his way up the ladder first joining the franchise as a video scout. From there, he became a Game Planning and Communications coach. In 2023, he was promoted to become a trusted in-game support system for manager Dave Roberts. Whenever there’s a shot into the the dugout, Lehmann is often seen standing directly next to Roberts.

Having spent a decade with the Dodgers, Lehmann is a grinder — and also one that is said to be highly analytics-based. For the Braves, a team coming off a dreadful 2025 season, some modernizing could be needed. The roster is still flush with high-end talent across the lineup.

However, a new voice could be what gets the Braves back competing for an NL East title.
