Can Dodgers Pitcher JP Feyereisen Pick Up Where He Left Off, Continue Scoreless Streak?
The Dodgers have done a lot this winter to improve their team, but they will also be getting back some key players from injury next season. One of those players is relief pitcher J.P. Feyereisen, who is coming off right rotator cuff and labrum surgery that forced him to miss the entire 2023 season.
Feyereisen could be a key player in the bullpen for the Dodgers next season. The team believes that he can be productive for them, and he will be given every opportunity to succeed.
He recently spoke with our very own Doug McKain about potentially keeping his scoreless streak alive next year. Feyereisen last pitched in 2022 with the Tampa Bay Rays and didn’t allow any runs in the 24.1 innings he pitched.
“I think what was working so well in 2022 was having conviction in things,” Feyereisen said. “I believed in our catchers behind the dish and the pitches they were calling. Rather than second guessing – ‘What pitch should I throw?’ — it was, ‘Yep, that’s the one we’re doing.’ Going after it, attacking, and getting ahead. I think that’s the main thing. Getting that first pitch strike in there, getting ahead of hitters, and putting them on their heels rather than putting yourself on your heels.”

His scoreless streak is rather impressive, and it sits just behind Earl Moore’s with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1908. He had a season of 26 innings with zero earned runs.
McKain asked the veteran pitcher if he ever discussed the streak with anyone. Normally baseball players are fairly superstitious when it comes to anything like this.
“I don’t mention that very often unless someone asks me about it. There’s a little luck involved in everything in baseball. I had a teammate, Josh Lowe, rob a home run by Tim Anderson for me in the fifth or sixth game of the year. Stuff like that is involved. Having good teammates and a good defense helps.”

Feyereisen represents more hope for the bullpen next season, and he will add to an already talented group. The Dodgers are loaded with firepower, so the bullpen will need to make sure to execute their jobs to perfection.
