Carlos Rodon Rumors: Mystery Team Enters The Conversation for Star Pitcher
Although the Dodgers have seemed to be in the conversation for almost every big name on the free-agency market, they still have yet to sign any of them (other than re-signing Kershaw).
Carlos Rodon remains one of those big names that have yet to commit to a team.
The Dodgers and Red Sox were rumored to be in the hunt for the All-Star hurler as well as the Yankees, but a new team has entered the conversation:
There’s a mystery team in on Rodon, and it’s believed to be the Cardinals (so maybe it’s not such a great mystery after all) #mysteryteam

Rodon has already expressed that he is looking for a seven year contract which seems reasonable from someone like the Cardinals who only have two starting pitchers under contract after 2023 (Dakota Hudson and Steven Matz).
The Dodgers on the other hand are still looking for another pitcher to add to their rotation after Tyler Anderson signed with the Angels. But they are still in the hunt for a starting shortstop after Trea Turner signed an 11-year contract with the Phillies.
With LA’s top targets off the board (Senga, deGrom, and Verlander), the team will either pursue Rodon a little more aggressively or continue to play it safe and trust in the hurlers they have right now.
But having Rodon in their toolkit wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Before opting out of his two-year contract with the San Francisco Giants, the 30-year-old pitched a career-high 31 starts, with a 2.88 ERA in 178 innings. He also had an absurd 33.4 SO% and strong 7.3 BB%.
Although his reason for backing out of his contract is unknown if it’s because of the lack of winning with the Giants, he might have more success with St. Louis who finished first in the NL Central this past season.
But the current Cardinals pitching staff is full of stars like Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas, Jack Flaherty, Jordan Montgomery, Matz, and Hudson for this upcoming season so the Cardinals weren’t expected to be in much free-agent conversation until next season.
But as far as we know, these could all just be rumors.. until they’re not. We’ll have to wait and see what team ends up with the superstar hurler whether it’s the Dodgers, the not-such-a-mystery team, or someone else.
