Clayton Kershaw News: ‘Door is Open’ For Return, Says GM Brandon Gomes
One of the biggest questions surrounding the Dodgers this offseason is what will happen with left-hander Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw is currently a free agent, and there has been a lot of talk about him potentially leaving the Dodgers this winter.
Kershaw has signed one-year contracts each of the last few seasons to keep flexibility for himself as he enters into the final bit of his career. But with that comes the thought that he could leave each offseason.
He won’t be pitching for a good portion of the 2024 season as he recovers from shoulder surgery, but the team remains open to retaining him for another season.
Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes left the door open for a reunion with Kershaw. He said that the team continues to stay in touch with the veteran left-hander.
Kershaw was one of the better pitchers for Los Angeles last season before his injury. He made 24 starts for the team, posting an ERA of 2.46 and a WHIP of 1.06.
He was once again thought of as a potential Cy Young candidate before his injury, which could spell good news if he does return to the Dodgers. Kershaw has been with the team his entire career, so it would be strange to see him leave the organization.
His hometown team, the Texas Rangers, has shown major interest in stealing Kershaw away this offseason. With Texas winning the World Series last season, Kershaw has a big decision to make on his future.
Kershaw deserves the right to decide what is best for him and his family, but fans all hope that he returns to the Dodgers. The lasting image of Kershaw in a Dodgers jersey shouldn’t be him walking off the field after a collapse on the mound, so even if he comes back for one more season, it would mean everything to the team.
