Could Dodgers Bring Back Cody Bellinger in Free Agency? MLB Insider Talks Possibilty

The Los Angeles Dodgers have some questions to answer in free agency this winter, perhaps the most important of which is their hole in left field.

Michael Conforto played the majority of games in left field for the Dodgers in 2025, however had a wildly disappointing season after LA gave him a one-year, $17 million contract. The New York Post’s Jon Heyman believes the Dodgers could look to bring back former MVP Cody Bellinger to round out their outfield.

“He’d fit since their outfield is the least of their strengths, and some Dodgers folks like him,” Heyman wrote. “He’s turned it back around since the couple of years of offensive struggles following his MVP season in L.A.”

Bellinger spent the first six seasons of his MLB career with the Dodgers, winning both the NL MVP and Rookie of the Year during his tenure in LA. He played in 745 games for the Dodgers, hitting 152 home runs and posting a .819 OPS.

Despite his overall great numbers in Los Angeles, Bellinger fell into something of a slump during his last two seasons with the Dodgers, failing to bat league average and falling short of 20 home runs in both 2021 and 2022. The Dodgers non-tendered him after 2022, and he joined the Chicago Cubs on a three-year deal in the offseason.

Since his departure from Dodger Stadium, Bellinger has switched back on and has returned as a solid major league bat. He hit 44 home runs with the Cubs across two seasons, and continued to tear the cover off the ball with the New York Yankees after the Cubs traded him ahead of 2025.

Bellinger opted out of an extra year with the Yankees, and will once again be a free agent this season. The Dodgers have a huge opportunity to bring a star back to Dodger Stadium, and could very well do so come the offseason.

Before then, however, they have to focus on staying alive in the World Series, as they face a 3-2 deficit heading to Toronto for Game 6. The Dodgers look to stay alive behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game 6, which begins Friday, Oct. 31 at 5:00 p.m. PT.

  1. I love Bellinger. But he is the very last guy the Dodgers need to add to this lineup filled with overpaid prima donna non-contact hitters.

They’re about to lose this world series mainly because they’re playing a team filled with guys you never heard of who know how to put the ball on the damn ball when it is most needed. Meanwhile, the Dodgers send up an endless parade of guys looking to pad stats by always swinging for the fence regardless of the situation. The contrast has been stunning, frankly.

You just cannot afford to add yet another non-contact hitter to this lineup.

  2. The Dodgers should add Arraez for 2nd and 1st back up being a lower budget on base guy.

Sign Tucker for right and move T. Hernandez to left with Edman in center and 2nd. Pages becomes the 4th.

Let Conforto, Call go and with Kershaw retired the money goes to replace.

    These are the larger moves.
