Could Dodgers Make Blockbuster Tarik Skubal Trade? MLB Insider Answers

All eyes are on Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal this offseason, as he has just one year left on his contract in Motor City and is yet to sign an extension.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand believes Skubal leaving the Tigers in a trade this offseason is feasible, and says the Los Angeles Dodgers could be a team who pounces on the 28-year-old ace.

“Three other contending teams – the Dodgers, Phillies and Padres – should never be counted out of situations like this one, as their front offices have a history of making big moves,” Feinsand wrote.

“A Dodgers deal would potentially have to include outfielder Josue De Paula, Los Angeles’ No. 1 prospect and the No. 13 prospect in baseball. The Dodgers have seven players currently on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list – not to mention an inexpensive, budding star in Roki Sasaki – giving president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman a number of chips to use in a deal if he chooses to make his pitching-rich club even richer.”

The Dodgers have a plethora of top prospects they could throw at the Tigers for the ace, such as the previously mentioned De Paula or No. 2 prospect Zhyir Hope. If the Dodgers were to trade for Skubal, though, they’d have to extend him beyond the one-year he has left before entering free agency.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported earlier in October that Skubal and the Tigers were more than $250 million apart during extension talks, which means the Dodgers would likely be forking over more than $300 million to the southpaw.

The Dodgers’ current rotation is strong enough to warrant avoiding Skubal this offseason, and has led them to yet another appearance in the World Series.

  1. Absolutely not. This team needs outfield help and players with speed. And fundamentals are lacking.
Can’t move runners over and always looking for the big blast. How about a pitch out once in awhile? A bunt? Keep the young players and bring them up. Use that system.

  2. This article is kinda late to what’s been said out there trading De Paula, Sheehan, and another player possible one of their catchers. It’s been said that is an overpay by the Dodgers but I say get it done. Sign Cody Bellinger back.
