Could Tyler Glasnow Be Included in Potential Dodgers’ Return Package for Tarik Skubal?

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow has emerged as a trade candidate this offseason. It was reported earlier this winter that Glasnow would be a name to watch out for on the trade block.

Lo and behold, ESPN insider Alden Gonzalez is speculating Glasnow could be included in a potential Dodgers’ return package for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal.

“Tyler Glasnow’s name has come up in conversations, and the Dodgers would not be opposed to moving him. He’s poised to make a combined $60 million over the next two years, with either a $30 million club option or a $21.6 million player option in 2028. But the quality of his stuff continues to tantalize executives throughout the industry, and there are certainly a fair share of teams that will bank on him staying healthy enough to make it worthwhile. Maybe he’s part of the package that brings Tarik Skubal to L.A. It’s a long shot, perhaps, but wilder things have happened,” Gonzalez writes.

The Dodgers have reportedly engaged in serious trade talks with the Tigers regarding Skubal; however, it remains unlikely that the two-time Cy Young winner will land in LA. Moreover, it would be hard to imagine the Dodgers letting go of an All-Star like Glasnow, unless it was for Skubal.

Glasnow was recently included in a proposed return package to the Tigers, along with Emmet Sheehan and top outfield prospect Zyhir Hope. Detroit would likely want more from LA; however, the rumors haven’t ceased when it comes to the Dodgers acquiring the Tigers ace.

Earlier this week, manager Dave Roberts spoke with reporters at the Winter Meetings about the Dodgers’ offseason moves and said the team didn’t need to make a “big splash” this winter. The following day, the Dodgers signed All-Star closer Edwin Diaz to a three-year, $69 million deal.

It would be a mistake to rule the Dodgers out in a potential blockbuster trade for Skubal, especially since they have the prospects and pitchers to send to Detroit.

  1. I would hate to see Glasnow go he is one of my favorites I have always liked him. But I would understand to get Skubal but I wouldn’t like it.

    1. Like him as well, but unfortunately, he seems a bit fragile. Prior to LA, his career high in IP is 120. He had 134 in 2024, but then was out injured. This year was 90.1. For his career, he averages 75 IP, but in fairness he’s averaged almost 115 over his last 3 seasons. Had he not missed half of this season injured, he likely would not have been available in the 2025 postseason, just like in 2024. And if he’s part of a package to land Skubal, kind of a no brainer IMO.

  2. Rule 1. Especially today, you can never have too much starting pitching.

    Rule 2. See Rule 1.

    1. I think the Dodgers should hold off on Skubal entirely — at least during the offseason — but if they had to throw a pitcher in it would probably be Glasnow or Sheehan due to the quality of the rest of the starters.

    2. The Dodgers have involved Tyler Glasnow in trade discussions this offseason and they are not opposed to moving him.

  3. I bet Glasnow would help land an above average outfielder but would hate for that to happen. Why not move him to long relief so there’s not as many innings/season?

    1. He’s definitely a valuable trade piece and could very well fetch a solid outfielder, but I think the Dodgers should keep him for sure.
