To lose once to the worst team in baseball is surprising — to lose twice is concerning.
The Los Angeles Dodgers picked up their second loss in three games against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. With starting pitcher Tanner Gordon on the mound, the Rockies defeated the reigning World Series champions, 8-3.

Gordon has only made 17 starts in his two-season MLB career. He has been in and out of the minor leagues and held a 7.98 ERA ahead of the game against the Dodgers.
The right-hander gave up four hits and one run while striking out three batters in six innings. The only run Gordon gave up came from outfielder Teoscar Hernández’s solo homer in the top of the sixth inning.
“I really don’t have an answer,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts about losing to Gordon. “Obviously he’s a command guy. We didn’t hit the fastball. I don’t think we took good swings off anything soft. I don’t know the answer.”
Gordon relies primarily on his fastball, which seemed to have worked well against the Dodgers. More than half of his pitches this season have been his fastball that averages 92 mph.

Some of the Dodgers’ best hitters struggled against Gordon. Three-time All-Star catcher Will Smith, who leads the NL in batting average and on-base percentage, went 0-for-2 against Gordon then struck out in his following two at-bats.
“This was baffling in the sense of the guys that we have, that we’re running out there, just to see the inconsistencies,” Roberts said. “We’re trying to figure it out. This has got to be one that we just really wash away. I’m very grateful we have a day game tomorrow.”
Fortunately, the Dodgers got back in the win column in Thursday’s series finale. However, losing to the Rockies twice in the four-game set narrowed their lead in the division down to one game.
Los Angeles will face the San Diego Padres in one more regular season series at Petco Park this weekend.

Maybe Robert’s deserves more of the blame for changing up a winning lineup and not playing situation baseball when you have runners in scoring position with less that 1 or 2 outs….that’s what the worst team in baseball did to beat the alleged best team in baseball and current WS Champions…
Losing to a rookie starting pitcher with over 7.35 ERA is embarrassing to say the least…
