Dave Roberts on Dodgers' Goals: 'Shohei Didn't Come Here to Not Win Championships'

The Los Angeles Dodgers are all in.

The Boys in Blue are tired of their playoff shortcomings, and so are the fans. Over the last decade, the Dodgers have only won one title despite being the favorites in many of those years.

The team has become weary, hence the strong offseason we have witnessed in the last few months.

The Dodgers knew they needed to make a big splash, and the 2023-2024 offseason was the perfect time to make it happen. Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani entered free agency, and the inevitable happened when he agreed on a mega deal to join the Boys in Blue.

This is exactly what both sides needed. He’s finally with a serious franchise, and the Dodgers have a cornerstone piece to rely on for the next ten seasons. It’s a match made in heaven on paper.

However, this will only be viewed as a success if Ohtani and the Dodgers reach the promised land.

According to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, that’s one of the main reasons he came to Los Angeles.

It’s championship or bust for the Dodgers. It’s not any different than in the last few seasons, but that statement is more accurate than ever.

Ohtani is a once-in-a-lifetime type player; however, he has yet to sniff the postseason. It’s not his fault, but it’s a shame not to witness the best player in the game today play in the postseason.

That should all change in 2024, and we hope Ohtani can lift the Commissioner’s trophy. 2024 will be a season to remember, hopefully for the better.
