Dave Roberts on Dodgers’ Hyeseong Kim: ‘Honestly I Just Think Everyone Loves Him’
The Los Angeles Dodgers have had countless injuries to deal with through the 2025 season, but a major bright spot has come out of the bleak ailments to the lineup in the form of Hyeseong Kim.
Originally acquired this offseason from Korea Baseball Organization, Kim looked to bring his four Gold Glove awards from overseas to become the everyday second baseman in Los Angeles. A glaring issue with the difference between MLB pitcher velocity versus that of KBO pitchers was certainly an adjustment for Kim as he ended up starting the year in Triple-A Oklahoma City.

After batting .252 with 19 RBIs in the minors this season, paired with a few key injuries including Tommy Edman making his way to the injured list, Kim was ready to debut in MLB.
He instantly impacted the Dodgers, despite not taking an at-bat until his third game with the team, as he showcased his speed as a pinch runner and even stole a base in his second appearance. Kim’s first start came Monday and he collected his first major league hit, RBI, and another stolen base. Since, he’s collected hits in back to back games, and has impacted the game with his legs and defense.
Manager Dave Roberts spoke on the kind of impact Kim is already having on this ball club.
“Honestly, I just think everyone loves Hyeseong Kim,” Roberts said. “Everyone does. Everyone’s pulling for him. Everyone’s happy. He’s just a great teammate. I think there’s just humility. I think people just appreciate genuineness. He’s just a nice guy. That’s refreshing.
“He just adds that spark to our ballclub.”
Regardless of how long Kim stays with the team, whether it exceeds Edman’s time on the IL or not, he is making the most of his moment and proving why he deserves a spot in the majors.
