Dave Roberts Provides Latest Update on Blake Snell’s Return Timeline for Dodgers

Blake Snell’s impending return to the Dodgers will be a welcomed sight.

At this point in the season, L.A. has managed to stay afloat via their excellent talent pool, though also the pitching depth built up within the various levels courtesy of the front office.

The Dodgers have used a number of arms shuttled to and from the Major League roster over the last couple of weeks to compensate for several injuries. While some of these arms are promising and somewhat proven in nature, the team is still eagerly awaiting the return of the wicked lefty that, when healthy, is among the best pitchers in the game of baseball.

Manager Dave Roberts recently spoke about when Snell could be back on the mound for the Dodgers. Roberts intimated that Snell will start throwing off a mound “sometime, really, (this) week makes sense.”

In the interim, Snell had been playing long-toss — throwing the ball up to 115 feet. Snell has not pitched in a game since April 2. The idea is he’d face hitters in some sort of setting, whether in a simulated game or perhaps in a rehab start in the minors, before coming back up to the big club with the Dodgers.

On the year, Snell has only made two starts. He kicked off the home opener in L.A. versus the Detroit Tigers by throwing five innings and allowing two earned runs, five hits, and four walks. A week later versus Atlanta, Snell gave up five unearned runs courtesy of some faulty defense. The four-inning effort was hindered again by four walks and five hits.
