Dodger Stadium to Host 9th Annual College Baseball Classic

Before the Dodgers take the field on Opening Day, Dodger Stadium will host the 9th annual College Baseball Classic at Chavez Ravine. The tournament will feature four of the best programs in the country.

Oklahoma State and the University of Michigan will battle it out in the first game of the March 10 doubleheader, which will be followed by the local rivalry of USC versus UCLA.

During the tournament, the Dodgers will be in Camelback Ranch as Opening Day will be less than three weeks away.

While professional leaguers prepare themselves for the MLB season, collegiate athletes will be in the midst of the college baseball season. The NCAA Division I season is scheduled to start Feb. 15 in Scottsdale, Arizona with the MLB4 tournament.

UCLA goes into the tournament as the highest ranked program of the four teams. Per D1baseball.com preseason rankings, the Bruins are ranked fifth in the nation with Michigan and Oklahoma State following behind at No. 17 and No. 18. USC didn’t crack the list of national rankings in any preseason polls listed by the NCAA.

History

Michigan last participated in the College Baseball Classic in 2017 when they defeated the University of San Diego 3-1. The Oklahoma Sooners will be making their fourth appearance at Chavez Ravine while both California teams make their eighth.

Since the classic’s inauguration at Dodger Stadium, only one team that participated went on to win the College World Series. In 2013, UCLA won it all in Omaha, Nebraska which was the same season when they handed a 6-1 loss to USC in Dodger Stadium.

In last year’s College World Series playoffs, Oklahoma State and UCLA were eliminated in the first round.

Tickets for the classic are available for purchase through the Dodgers’ website, which will also offer prepaid parking for the day.
