Dodgers 2013 Playoff Forecast: The St. Louis Cardinals

Game 3: Hyun-jin Ryu (14-7)/Ricky Nolasco (13-11), the Dodgers don’t yet know who will take the mound for Game 3 as Nolasco looked to be a lock to start Game 3, especially with a 2-0 record against the Cards with a 0.75 ERA, but has struggled of late.

Meanwhile Ryu looks to be the choice as he’s been solid of late and has pitched much better at Dodger Stadium. For the Cardinals, Lynn (14-10) has been okay this season, but not great with a 4.09 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 189 strikeouts and did hold the Dodgers scoreless for six innings, earning the win.

Recent Playoff History:

The Cardinals own a slight 18-15 lead over the Dodgers since 2009, but in that year, despite losing the season series versus the Cardinals, the Dodgers did the unthinkable and not only eliminated the heavily-favorite Cardinals in the NLDS, but swept them out of the playoffs. The series is most remembered by the dropped fly ball by Cardinals left fielder, Matt Holliday. Trailing by one run and two outs in the ninth inning, the Dodgers came back and won the game and took the momentum for good.

Splits:

  • Carl Crawford 13-27 vs. St. Louis with six runs and four doubles this season.
  • Adrian Gonzalez 4-17 vs. Wainwright with six strikeouts and two RBI.
  • Matt Kemp 3-24 vs. Wainwright with five strikeouts.
  • Kershaw 41-23 2.22 ERA at Dodger Stadium vs. 2-3 3.65 ERA at Busch Stadium.
  • Greinke 9-1 2.11 ERA at Dodger Stadium vs. 3-1 2.28 ERA at Busch Stadium.
  • Wainwright 1-2 5.16 ERA at Dodger Stadium vs. 52-32 2.69 ERA at Busch Stadium.

So what do you think, would you want to face off against the Cardinals in the NLDS?
