Dodgers: 3 Dodger Pitchers Named To National League All-Star Team

On a day where it appeared the best team in Major League Baseball was snubbed with only one All-Star, the pitchers were announced.

Hyun-Jin Ryu, Walker Buehler, and Clayton Kershaw have all made the NL pitcher’s roster.

This marks the first nod to the mid-summer classic for both Ryu and Buehler. For Kershaw, it’s his 8th selection, and first since 2017.

They join Cody Bellinger as the initial representatives from the Dodgers squad.

Most importantly, Dave Roberts announced that Ryu will start for the National League squad.

Very much deserved for the Cy Young hopeful.

Elite Pitching Dodgers

Well deserved selections when you consider the Dodgers team pitching statistics. The Dodgers pitching staff leads the NL in ERA, WAR, FIP, and opponent batting average. This is incredible when one considers that the Dodgers bullpen has not been their crowning achievement. Speaking of the bullpen…

There’s A Familiar Name Missing

Kenley Jansen was noticeably left off of the MLB All-Star roster. Kenley had made 3 consecutive all star games from 2016-2018. The Dodgers big closer has 23 saves, while posting a 3.12 ERA, and a 3.18 FIP. While there has been more chatter about his performance, he’s actually on pace to be better than he was in his 2018 campaign. His 2017 was absolutely legendary and just unfair to expect him to repeat, so calling this a snub isn’t a big leap.

Dodgers Representing The NL

Only the day will tell if all 3 Dodger pitchers will make a pitching appearance in the All-Star game. The determining factor will also be when the last day they pitch is before the game, and overall health. The NL coach will obviously be very familiar with their situations, being that it’s Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts.

AJ Gonzalez

AJ is a lifelong Dodgers and Lakers fan who grew up in California. His whole family is also lifelong Dodgers fans. He lives in Pennsylvania with his wife, two kids, his guitars, and beagle Kobe.

  1. I have been a dodger fan since they were in Brooklyn and had Jackie Robinson and Roy Campanella among other greats. Love them and now Clayton Kershaw who is my favorite player. I have a great book he wrote and it is great. Go dodgers!

  2. Kershaw hasn’t did anything splended to be on the all Star team. Other than being hurt most of the year.

    1. Kershaw hasn’t been hurt most of the year; 14 starts and 92 innings. Where do you get your facts?
