Dodgers Acquire Lefty Reliever Zac Rosscup from Rockies
The Dodgers have made another move to potentially bolster their bullpen yesterday. They have claimed left-handed pitcher Zac Rosscup from the Rockies and designated LHP Edward Paredes for assignment.

Rosscup had been on the disabled list for most of this season. He has been pitching with Rockies’ triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque since being activated on June 13. In his 10 relief appearances with the Isotopes, Rosscup has thrown 8 1/3 innings while allowing only 1 earned run.
Analysis
Rosscup’s Major League debut came in 2013 as a member of the Cubs. In his 71 Major League appearances since Rosscup has earned a 3-1 career record and a 5.30 ERA.
It isn’t clear whether the Dodgers have seen something in Rosscup’s limited work in the minors to indicate his viability as a regular bullpen piece. According to Ken Gurnick, it was a blister on Rosscup’s left middle finger that saw him starting the season on the DL. At the least, this acquisition can be seen as a minor upgrade from Paredes, who Rosscup has essentially replaced on the 40-man roster.
Paredes made 15 relief appearances for the Dodgers this season, going 2-0 with a 5.87 ERA over 7.2 IP. Being DFA’d means Paredes will either be traded, released, or placed on waivers within 7 days.
Rosscup will likely spend time in the minors before getting called up if he gets the call at all. Should his early success continue, there is little doubt he will be given the chance to strengthen the Dodgers’ weak bullpen. Only time will tell.

Why does management continue to get these injured relief pitchers with no history of success at the major league level?
Go out and get a successful reliever for the eighth inning to set up Jansen and then tell Roberts to let his starters earn their money by pitching seven innings.
Get rid of the one-batter pitchers, who are just taking up room on the roster!
