In a corresponding move, the Dodgers optioned reliever Noah Davis.
Gomez was designated for assignment by the New York Yankees earlier this week. He has a 2.70 ERA across six appearances this season. The right-hander pitched 10 innings for the Bronx Bombers, giving up three earned runs, five hits, and nine walks. Gomez struck out five.
Now, Gomez will get an opportunity to take the mound for the defending champions.
Davis has a 10.13 ERA across 2.2 innings pitched with the Dodgers this season. The right-hander made an appearance Friday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates, which featured one walk and two strikeouts.
Davis faced seven Pirates batters, striking out two in his 35-pitch outing. The Dodgers recalled the reliever last week to bolster the bullpen ahead of their series with the Texas Rangers. Bobby Miller was optioned the day prior, and Davis being recalled was the corresponding move.
With Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, Davis has a 7.94 ERA with nine strikeouts across 5.2 innings pitched. The right-hander was traded to the Dodgers from the Boston Red Sox just hours before Opening Day.
