Dodgers Add RHP Reyes Moronta to the Roster

The Dodgers had a series of moves before their finale against the Padres on Sunday afternoon. There was already an early report that southpaw Darien Nunez would need to undergo Tommy John surgery, meaning that he would be out for the season.

But they also added Reyes Moronta into the mix ahead of the game on Sunday. Moronta made 6 appearances with OKC in 2022 and put up a 1.50 ERA and 10 punchouts. In 4 seasons with the Giants, Moronta went 8-9 with a 2.65 ERA and 162 strikeouts. He later joined the Dodgers on a minor league deal over the offseason.

The Dodgers will need to play with their bullpen a lot over the next two weeks. With the rosters going back down to just 26 players, there will be a lot of changes. But adding in Tommy Kahnle and Caleb Ferguson will only further complicate the situation.

Moronta will join a bullpen that already consists of a lot of power arms. But his plus-fastball and wipeout slider will be a huge addition, regardless of how long he is up for.
