Dodgers: Additional Tests Reveal More Damage on Cody Bellinger’s Injured Leg

The Dodgers and Padres are set to kick off the first game of a 3-game series tonight in San Diego. This will be the first time they match up all season with a total of 19 games played between the NL West teams in 2021.

The Dodgers already knew they would be without Cody Bellinger coming into this series. Dave Roberts had said previously that there was almost a zero percent chance he would be ready to go after an injury to his calf.

That news got a little worse today. Prior to the game against the Padres, Doc said that Bellinger had undergone further testing after lingering soreness. The Dodgers’ medical staff found that he has a hairline fracture in his injured leg, and sounds like it is on his tibia.

Roberts did say that it did not change the timeline as far as Bellinger returning to action. But it also means the Dodgers still don’t know exactly went that will be, much like when he first got stepped on by the A’s pitcher. Earlier today on MLB Network, Doc estimated that it would be about 2 more weeks before seeing Bellinger in a game.

For the moment, Bellinger is on the Dodgers 10-day injured list. He will continue to work towards recovery and there is no indication that he would need to go on the 60-day at this point. But if they were to go that route, they would also be able to fill his 40-man roster spot.

Let’s hope it doesn’t get to that point.
