Dodgers: Alex Vesia Strikes Out YouTube Sensation

Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia is doing whatever he can to stay sharp during the MLB lockout. Vesia has been spotted pitching to high school baseball players as well as throwing to YouTube star Eric Sim.

It looks like Vesia made an encore appearance on Sim’s channel.

In the video, Vesia can be seen facing Sim. The lefty is certainly not holding back on his pitches.

WARNING: This video contains explicit language.

The lefty reliever strikes Sim out on what some in the baseball world call an “invisiball”.

The term references a pitcher’s delivery affecting the batter’s ability to pick the ball up quickly and identify whether or not it’s a hittable pitch. By the time a hitter can discern the pitch type and location, it’s too late.

Sim simply called Vesia’s pitching “nasty”.

Last season, Vesia logged a 2.25 ERA en route to becoming one of Dodgers manager Dave Roberts’ preferred bullpen options. He finished the season ranked 23rd in the majors in ERA among relievers with at least 40 IP.

In the second half of the season, the Alpine native recorded a 0.99 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP. He yielded a meager .485 OPS to opposing hitters.

Whenever the 2022 season starts, Vesia figures to be Roberts’ go-to left-handed reliever option.

Although, the Dodgers will have other options when it comes to lefty relievers. A remade Victor Gonzalez and healthy Caleb Ferguson should both get some consideration for the Opening Day roster. Garrett Cleavinger and Justin Bruihl could also factor into the Dodgers plans.
