Dodgers: Andrew Friedman Talks About When He’ll Know it’s Time to Walk Away

When Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman stopped by to talk with insider David Vassegh after the Dodgers clinched the NL West on Tuesday night, the topics of discussion ranged far and wide as they discussed the great 2022 Los Angeles team.

The Dodgers have made the postseason in every season of Friedman’s tenure in L.A., and they’ve won the West every year except one. But that one was last year, when the Dodgers tied a franchise record with 106 wins but got edged out by the 107-win Giants.

With last year’s blip in mind, Vassegh asked Friedman how this year’s team is.

“Each year is so different for me — the arc is different, the players involved, the situations that lead up to it… and I love it. Each time for me is like the first. I think it is really important to have that mindset. If it ever gets to a point where it’s not that, I think it’s time to look for something else to do.”

As Dodger fans, we have to hope it doesn’t get back to that point, because Friedman is putting on a clinic about how successful you can be when you’re smarter than everyone else and have owners who are willing to spend money on the team. Freddie Freeman was a huge free-agent acquisition, but Tyler Anderson flew under the radar and ended up on the NL All-Star team. This team is a living example of all the different ways a successful team can be built.

So Andrew, please keep having fun, because we’re enjoying the heck out of this.
