Dodgers Announce Series of Roster Moves Ahead of Pittsburgh Series

The Dodgers made a slew of roster moves on Tuesday ahead of their first game of a three-game series in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. Here’s everything you need to know, plus what moves could be coming later this week.

Let’s start with the pitching. The Dodgers activated RHP Evan Phillips off the paternity list, and placed RHP Brusdar Graterol on it. So, essentially, they traded places.

Over on the hitting side of things, the Dodgers placed reigning National League Player of the Week Max Muncy on the paternity list, and officially called up infielder Michael Busch. He’s set to make his MLB debut on Tuesday as the Dodgers’ designated hitter.

Those are the immediate moves, but there are still going to be more to come in the next few days.

What Moves are Next for the Dodgers?

Dodgers RHP Tony Gonsolin is expected to be activated off the injured list on Wednesday to start game two of the series against the Pirates. The Dodgers will need to send someone down to make room for him, and my guess is that it will be RHP Andre Jackson.

Then, in three or fewer days, the Dodgers will welcome Muncy and Graterol back from the paternity list. We’ll see what that means for Busch and which of the pitchers end up getting sent back down — it could be Victor Gonzalez who was recently called up.

Finally, the Dodgers are expecting Miguel Rojas and Will Smith to potentially return this weekend. Smith has been out for two weeks with a concussion, while Rojas was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.

Dave Roberts’ recent comments made it sound like both guys could be back this weekend, which could spell the end of Luke Williams’ time with the big league club and Austin Wynns time with the Dodgers, altogether. Then again, Williams could be sent down when Muncy returns, and Busch could last through Rojas’ return (or maybe even later if he’s playing well).

These are all the updates for now. We’ll update you again once the imminent moves are made!
