Dodgers’ Blake Snell Admits He Shouldn’t Have Pitched to Start Season Due to Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed several stars in the offseason, but headlined the winter by inking a five-year, $182 million deal with left-handed pitcher Blake Snell.

From the moment Snell’s signing was announced, it was evident the two-time Cy Young winner was ecstatic to join the Dodgers. The 32-year-old was one of the first pitchers to arrive at Camelback Ranch.

Unfortunately, Snell’s excitement may have contributed to his early season injury.

“I probably should have stopped throwing before Opening Day but I just wanted to pitch so bad,” Snell recently told AM 570 Sports. “It’s tough, we want to compete. You want to play and, you know, new to being a Dodger, I just want to show everyone how great I am and what I can be. Got a little too far ahead of myself. Looking forward to getting back.”

The southpaw made just two starts for the Dodgers before being placed on the injured list. Snell was the first of three starters who were in the Opening Day rotation to be sidelined by injury. Since then, Tyler Glasnow and Roki Sasaki have joined the lefty on the sidelines.

The Dodgers transferred Snell to the 60-day IL last weekend, but he provided a positive update on his recovery.

“The pain is finally going away,” Snell said. “I haven’t played catch without pain in probably since we were in Japan. I’m pretty excited about that. Just feels good to finally play catch again and be able to work on something.”

  1. Amazed that Dodgers spent all that money on Snell given his injury record. Is his money guaranteed?
