Dodgers: Bold Predictions For Will Smith This Year

The Dodgers have an incredibly powerful lineup this season. That can pretty much be said for most seasons over the last couple of years. But the addition of Freddie Freeman this year at the top of the order really gives them some punch. Surrounding Freddie with guys like Mookie Betts and Trea Turner should prove to be lethal for opposing pitchers.

But Will Smith is often overlooked in this high-powered offense. The young catcher put up some incredible numbers in his first few years in the big leagues, and Dodgers fans are expecting a lot from him during the 2022 season.

Could an All-Star nod be in the cards for WIll this season? Our very own Doug McKain asked him what that would mean for him in his 4th big league season, especially with the game being played in Los Angeles this year.

Smith went wild in 2021, especially in the second half. He slashed .266/.376/.560 over his final 56 games, including a .936 OPS. If he can carry that over throughout the course of the 2022 season, the Dodgers will have the best catcher in all of baseball.

The Dodgers will also have the added benefit of the universal DH this year, meaning Smith should get more days off of his feet. That could help his bat immensely, as the wear and tear on a catcher can really change their game late in the season. Expect big things out of the backstop this year.
