Dodgers ‘Closely Monitoring’ $70 Million All-Star Infielder for Potential Trade Deadline Move
The Los Angeles Dodgers have made it abundantly clear that winning is the top priority for the 2025 season. In the span of a week, the Dodgers parted ways with two longtime veterans by releasing Chris Taylor and designating Austin Barnes for assignment.

The shocking moves essentially confirm president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and general manager Brandon Gomes will not sit idly by as the deadline nears. Fans should expect the Dodgers to do whatever it takes to improve the roster, and MLB insider Bob Nightengale suggests it could potentially come in the form of an infielder from a National League West team.
“Several teams, including the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers, are closely monitoring Colorado Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon in case he’s traded this summer,” Nightengale writes.
McMahon has played at third base every game this season, hitting .201 with six home runs, 11 runs batted in and an OPS of .691. The 30-year-old ranks positively in Outs Above Average, so his defense is likely what interested teams are looking at the most.
Last season, McMahon earned his first All-Star selection and slashed .242/.325/.397 with 20 home runs, 65 RBIs and an OPS of .722.
This wouldn’t be the first time the Dodgers have been linked to a third baseman. In the offseason, the defending champions were connected to 10-time Gold Glove winner Nolan Arenado, who made it known L.A. was his preferred trade destination.
Nevertheless, the Dodgers never publicly expressed interest in Arenado and penciled in Max Muncy as their starting third baseman.
Just a few months later, the Dodgers are now being linked to McMahon.

McMAhon would be an interesting pick up. But I think the Dodgers should wait until the trade deadline before they make anymore changes, if changes need to be made. I am sure McMahon would like to get out of the hell-hole which Colorado has become. They need new ownership if they expect to turn it around. Like when Jerry McMorris was in charge back in the day. They were competitive then…
We all know that the Rockies will NEVER trade with the Dodgers. They either need to get Rafael Devers or move Edman to 3rd base.
We need that cancer Devers like we need a hole in the head. He is not a good defender which is why the Red Sox got Bregman and wanted to move Devers to First or DH. We don’t need that kind of problem on this team…
He was the AL Player of the Week last week. He would be a whole lot better than Muncy.
Another guy who can’t hit his weight. Prefer Moonshot.
Max have to see the writing on the wall. First was Arenado and now McMahon. The only thing in his favor is he’s cheaper than the others, but how many costly errors and runners left stranded on bases can management stomach. He knows he has to perform or he too will be shipped out. Management is showing their hand to win another championship .
The Dodgers need to do something with Conforto too. He is batting .168 and getting paid 17 million dollars for that? Are you kidding me. Bring up Ryan Ward he is batting .320 with 9 home runs. I have never seen a MLB playing every day at .168. Just horrible. I went to the game last night and Muncy was having a lot of trouble with his throws to first. He had an issue charging the ball too. He was just too slow. The team needs an up grade. Muncy is batting .204. It is time to bring in someone new. The Dodger really needs to do something with their pitching. It was so bad last night against the DBacks. Knack was pitching batting practice. Kim was playing CF and he lost a ball. He is not an outfielder. He is a good infielder. Friedman and Roberts need to work harder at this point. Why was Kim in the outfield and why is Conforto playing?
A lot of agreement here. Conforto is a write-off as far as this civilian can tell.. RF: Hernandez, CF: Edman and LF: Pages. 2B: Kim.
On the other hand, McMahon is a terrible idea! If we make a move there, we need a good stick who can play D.
And speaking of D, NOT Devers!
