Dodgers: Dave Roberts Addresses the Freddie Freeman Rumors

The free agency frenzy has officially started…sort of. Smaller deals are already coming through the pipelines across baseball right now, and big names should start to come off of the board in the coming days. Naturally, the Dodgers and their fans would like to be involved in that frenzy.

The Dodgers have already re-signed Clayton Kershaw to a one-year deal and been linked to a number of big free agent names. But there has been no bigger link than the one they have to Freddie Freeman.

Reports from all over suggest that their interest in the first baseman is real, and what a huge addition he would be.

Dave Roberts spoke with Dodgers media earlier today and naturally was asked about free agency. When asked about the Freddie Freemen to Los Angeles rumors, he said something that perked up the ears of everyone out west.

I would love to see Freddie Freeman in a Dodger uniform. I think that who wouldn’t? He’s a heck of a ballplayer. …certainly, in the conversation for us but ultimately it is going to be his decision.

Freeman is a huge offensive weapon, and slotting him into this lethal Dodgers offense would almost be unfair. He has slashed .306/.400/.557 with a .958 OPS over the last 6 seasons for the Braves and is sure to command a monster contract.

In the hours since then, the rumors have heated up involving the superstar free agent.

The Dodgers do have a first baseman in Max Muncy, but adjustments can be made. The universal DH helps, as does the fact that Muncy can play second base well enough to be cemented there. But will they pull the trigger and spend big to bring Freddie home to California?
