Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided a little more information on left-handed reliever Alex Vesia, who the Dodgers announced was away from the team due to a “deeply personal family matter.”

While Roberts obviously didn’t speak on the matter, he spoke about the logistics of Vesia’s status for the World Series roster.
“I think right now we’re in the mode of trying to understand the process, the rules — a way that we can sort of try to navigate the roster,” Roberts said. “We’re going through the process of trying to backfill his spot on the roster.”
Roberts was then asked if he thought Vesia would be available for any of the World Series, but didn’t have that answer yet.
“I think we’re just going day to day,” Roberts said, “with really no expectations.”
Here was the Dodgers’ full statement on Vesia: “It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter. The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”
Vesia has played a critical role in the postseason for LA, making seven appearances, including six consecutive scoreless ones. He has been one of four high-leverage relievers the Dodgers have trusted, alongside Roki Sasaki, Blake Treinen and Anthony Banda.
