Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Doesn’t Expect Tommy Edman To Miss Much Time on Injured List
The Los Angeles Dodgers recently placed Tommy Edman on the injured list, but manager Dave Roberts doesn’t expect his utility star to miss much time.

“Tommy ran [Friday] and just still didn’t feel great, still some soreness in his ankle,” Roberts said. “Didn’t feel he could play tonight or even tomorrow, potentially. So just the backdate, knowing that it’s potentially 10 days to make sure he gets it right. We just felt that it was an easier decision.”
After tweaking his ankle last week, Edman was moved to the IL with ankle inflammation as the listed ailment. In a corresponding move, the ball club called up Korea Baseball Organization standout Hyeseong Kim to make his MLB debut.
Being without Edman has been difficult, but Kim has been able to play a few reps at second base and was even featured as a pinch runner and stole the first base in his MLB career Sunday night.
Edman was originally brought to the Dodgers in a three-team trade involving the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, which also brought relief pitcher Michael Kopech to L.A. Given that Edman was recovering from a wrist injury and Kopech’s down year (before his surge in Los Angeles), the Dodgers gave up little in this deal and simply took on the new players’ contracts.
Both players made immediate impacts, but Edman took a leap to a new level when he first put on a Dodgers uniform.
His OPS of .711 in 37 regular-season games was certainly productive, but his October slash line of .328/.354/.508 and an OPS of .862 earned him NLCS MVP honors and helped the Dodgers hoist their eighth World Series trophy.
In the Fall Classic alone, Edman had a .988 OPS with a home run and two stolen bases.
Hopefully, Roberts’ assessment of Edman is correct, and the utility star will be back on the diamond soon. He’s eligible to return Saturday.
