Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Doesn’t Know If He’ll Continue Managing After Contract Expires

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed he is unsure of his future in managing after his contract with LA expires after the 2029 season.

Roberts has been the Dodgers’ manager since the 2016 season, and has had an extremely successful run with the team since his appointment. Roberts has an impressive managerial record of 944-575 with the Dodgers, placing him fourth for all-time wins among Dodgers managers, and third in win percentage among Dodgers with at least 100 games at the helm.

He has continually proven himself and clearly has the organization’s trust, having his contract extended in 2016, 2018, 2022 and 2025.

“I think at that point in time it’ll be more of a year-to-year type thing,” Roberts said USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. “It’s been a great 10 years here, but we’ll see where we’re at in four more years.

“The world is going to look a lot different, I’m sure.”

Roberts has made the postseason in each of his 10 seasons as the Dodgers’ manager, and has won two World Series with the Dodgers so far. The manager has finished first place in the division in all of his managerial seasons with the Dodgers except for one, which came in 2021. The Dodgers still won 106 games that season.

The 53-year-old has been around professional baseball in some fashion since being drafted in 1994, having taken on a role as a base coach with the San Diego Padres after his retirement from MLB in 2009.

Roberts has another chance to make history this postseason by winning his third World Series championship, which would move him above Tommy Lasorda into second place among Dodgers managers all-time. The Dodgers are through to the NLCS for the third time in five seasons, and are looking to be the first team to win back-to-back World Series since the New York Yankees did it from 1998-2000.

The Dodgers resume play in the NLCS on Monday, and will face either the Chicago Cubs or Milwaukee Brewers after the end of their series Saturday evening.

  1. I don’t want Dave Roberts to ever quit managing the Dodgers! He should wait until he can no longer walk out to the pitchers’ mound.

    1. I agree. Too many couch coaches that criticizes his coaching. His 10 years with the Dodgers speaks for itself

      1. Donny Baseball built the winner and Chris Woodward should be the next Dodgers head coach a true local from Covina.

  2. Well I love the Dodgers and i do care about their future. I also care about the way Roberts thinks he has done so much keep it real the front office has done an outstanding job at bringing In talent thats who should get the praise here. He does alright for the most part and he can retire tomorrow and tje team who be fine.he is an arrogant man.

    1. As Dodger fans, I believe we all want to put the best team out on the field. As owners, I am certain they want to do the same. It is evident by opening their wallets. As for Dave Roberts, I don’t know him personally, never met him or heard any of his teammates refer to him as arrogant. To that point I would say, as long as the players are happy with him and as long as they keep playing in October, I’ll respect whatever decision he makes regarding his own future.
      GO DODGERS!!!

      1. The players have nothing but praise for Dave Roberts and I think that’s a testament to his philosophy as a manager. He gets a lot of criticism being in the spotlight of Hollywood, however, him having the highest winning percentage is also telling.
