The Los Angeles Dodgers remain atop the the National League West, despite falling 6-2 to the Los Angeles Angels Friday night.
The defending champions have been no stranger to injuries two months into the season, and have had to compete in baseball’s best division without two of their best hitters: Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernandez.

Edman and Hernandez are both on the injured list, but manager Dave Roberts provided an exciting update on the two Dodgers stars.
Edman could be activated as soon as Sunday, for the Dodgers’ series finale against the Halos. Hernandez is expected to go on a rehab assignment over the weekend with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, and could return Monday.
The corresponding roster moves for both Dodgers stars will remain a difficult decision, given the performance of recent call ups. Hyeseong Kim joined the big league team once Edman was sidelined by an ankle injury.
Since his arrival to The Show, Kim is hitting .452 with one home run, five runs batted in, and an OPS of 1.065.
The Dodgers also promoted top prospect Dalton Rushing, who went 2-for-4 with a single and a walk in his first career Major League start against the Athletics last Thursday. The 24-year-old is expected to play a backup role to Will Smith as the season progresses.
With that being said, the return of Edman and Hernandez will force the Dodgers to make some tough decisions regarding bottom of the roster players. The Dodgers could send Kim back down to the minors, though he is certainly making a case to stay with the big league team.

Obviously, Outman will go back to Oklahoma, but it’s time to DFA Chris Taylor. Kim adds much-needed energy to the lineup, and he can share 2B and CF with Edman. Of the remaining options to DFA, Kike, Rojas, Conforto, and Taylor, Kike is the most versatile, providing the best backup at 3rd and 1st. Rojas is the only true backup at short. Even slumping, Conforto is a better risk as a backup/platoon in left than Taylor, who hasn’t hit for 3 years. Conforto and Taylor represent almost identical expiring contracts, so it’s simply a question of who helps the team more.
Yep, I totally agree. You called it exactly right. Sending Kim down would be a total crime and an outrage!
What is a crime is not letting Ryan Ward a shot at the big club. He is at .320 with 9 home runs and has a hot bat this year, yet they let him rot in the minors but bring up Outman who has been a failure once again. Taylor, Conforto and Outman need to be released. Either play Ward or trade home. Kind of cruel to not bring up Ryan Ward a chance with the Dodgers. Kim must stay with the club right now. The Dodgers talk about trading for all new players while they have perfectly good kids at AAA Oklahoma Comets.
Meant to say trade him not trade home. You cannot edit your post with this comment forum plus the ads block filling out your information 1/2 the time.
