Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Wants to See His Offense Play More Like Blue Jays’

The Los Angeles Dodgers implemented a new look lineup for World Series Game 5 in an effort to bounce back against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Mookie Betts, who is 3-for-23 in the Fall Classic, was batting third Wednesday night, the lowest he’s been in the order all season. Andy Pages was excluded from the starting lineup as Alex Call was the Dodgers’ No. 9 hitter.

The changes made little difference as the Dodgers offense generated just one run against the Blue Jays.

Manager Dave Roberts spoke after the crushing loss on LA’s lackluster offense, and the difference in production by Toronto’s red hot lineup.

“It doesn’t feel great,” Roberts said. “You clearly see those guys finding ways to get hits, move the baseball forward, and we’re not doing a good job of it. I thought Yesavage was good tonight mixing his fastball, slider, and the split. But, yeah, you still have to use the whole field and take what they give you, and if they’re not going to allow for slug, then you’ve got to be able to kind of redirect and club down to take competitive at-bats. … Those guys are doing it.

“We have that ability. We’ve got to make some adjustments.”

The Dodgers high-powered lineup has generated just three runs in World Series Games 4 and 5, and it cost them consecutive losses at home. It’s become increasingly clear the defending champions can’t win the next two games on the road unless the Dodgers offense gets hot.

  1. The 18 inning saga wore out our team! We are older team wise than the Bluejays! Ohtani is 31! It is bad time to have a slump! From a young age it is taught to hit the baseball where is pitched. It comes down to what team wants it more! Too many flyballs!
