Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Wants to See More Shohei Ohtani Bobblehead Nights

Every fan in attendance for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ series finale against the Athletics on Thursday received a Shohei Ohtani bobblehead. The collectible item commemorated Ohtani creating the 50 home run, 50 stolen base club.

With the bobblehead, the Dodgers have become accustomed to a spectacular performance from none other than the reigning National League Most Valuable Player. An Ohtani bobblehead night at Dodger Stadium has come to signify great things from the $700 million man.

Ohtani has homered in each of his last three bobblehead nights, and the Dodgers have won every one of those games. On Aug. 28, Ohtani went 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored when the Dodgers gave away an Ohtani and Decoy bobblehead.

Ohtani’s MVP bobblehead was the promotion at Dodger Stadium on April 2. He went 3-for-5 with a home run. On Thursday, Ohtani went 2-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs.

Because of the current pattern on Ohtani bobblehead nights, manager Dave Roberts naturally wants to see more of them.

“We need some more,” he said. “I think that four or five, I guess, a year is not enough, because when he has a bobblehead night, he seems to really perform.”

It’s hard for Ohtani’s teammates and the Dodgers skipper to be surprised by anything the superstar does at the plate. Ohtani has earned a reputation for coming through when the Dodgers need him most.

“There’s not many more superlatives you can use for Shohei,” Roberts said. “He’s just playing really good baseball. I mean, we saw it all last year. So he’s sort of just doing what Shohei does, which is amazingly not amazing anymore, I guess.”

And so, the Dodgers’ 19-2 win over the Athletics Thursday is another one in the history books as the team recorded season-highs in runs and home runs.

But what else would you expect on an Ohtani bobblehead night?
