Dodgers Draft Pick Underwent Major Leg Surgery, Out for 2025 College Football Season

Los Angeles Dodgers 2025 draft pick Sam Horn, who also is at quarterback at the University of Missouri, underwent successful surgery on Wednesday morning to repair a fractured tibia in his right leg, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Horn suffered the injury in Missouri’s first game of the season. According to Thamel, he will be out for the remainder of the 2025 football season.

Horn was a 17th round pick by the Dodgers in the 2025 MLB Draft. The Dodgers were hoping he would choose them, but Horn instead elected to go to Missouri where he was in a quarterback competition for the starting job.

“We’re pleasantly hoping he (plays for us),” Dodgers vice president of baseball operations Billy Gasparino said to the LA Times last month. “We think there’s a whole window of opportunity to get him much better, and quickly. … But he definitely seemed split on what he wanted to do going forward.”

Horn chose football for the time being, but will now miss significant time as he recovers from his injury. Horn also underwent Tommy John surgery as a sophomore, and pitched just 10.2 innings this past season, sporting a 4.22 ERA.

It remains to be seen how this injury impacts Horn’s future both with Missouri and the Dodgers. For now, the 22-year-old faces a lengthy rehab process.

  1. He should have known he was going to get hurt, after he signed with the Dodgers. They all get hurt after they sign. Never before.
