Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Emmet Sheehan is expected to remain in the rotation for at least one additional start before either being moved to the bullpen or sent back down to the minor leagues.

Sheehan made his second start of the 2025 season Sunday against the Houston Astros. The right-hander allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk across five innings pitched.
The 25-year-old was tasked with facing the San Diego Padres lineup in his return to MLB. Sheehan underwent Tommy John surgery in 2023 and missed all of last season as he recovered.
The right-hander did not skip a beat, allowing one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts against the division rivals.
On the season, Sheehan is sporting a 2.00 ERA with 10 strikeouts across two starts. The Dodgers surprised many when the right-hander was optioned after a strong season debut, but the team chose to keep Justin Wrobleski with the big league team in order to get more length.
As the Dodgers get back their staple starters in the rotation such as Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell, there won’t be as much opportunity for younger arms like Sheehan.
Manager Dave Roberts explained the situation for the Dodgers rotation as the season progresses, and Sheehan’s role with the team for the remainder of the year.
“I think (Sheehan) is earning it but the thing is that we have other guys that are giving themselves more runway,” Roberts said. “With Blake Snell and Glasnow down, some guys are getting an opportunity and making the most of it. … As guys come back to health, we have some tough decisions to make but that is obviously a good problem to have.”

He should’ve been optioned for Glasnow’s return.
