Dodgers Fans Want to See LA Trade for a Shortstop, Who Could They Target?

The Dodgers shortstop position has been…interesting in 2023. After Trea Turner signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in free agency, the Dodgers were planning on finally giving Gavin Lux the reins. However, he tore his ACL in spring training, ending his season before it even began.

Fortunately, the Dodgers had traded for longtime veteran infielder Miguel Rojas a few months prior, and he was then slated to be the team’s starting shortstop. However, he’s started the season in a slump, and is now on the injured list with a hamstring strain.

Chris Taylor has spent a good amount of time at shortstop this season, but he’s also struggled to hit the ball this season and is currently banged up, too. Because of all the injuries, the Dodgers currently have Luke Williams as the starting shortstop — and may be using Mookie Betts there, too.

With all that being said, and the whirlwind that has been the Dodgers shortstop position this year, we ran a poll over on our Twitter asking fans if they wanted to see the Dodgers trade for a shortstop. Of the 3,615 fans who voted, a whopping 83.4 percent of them want to see the Dodgers trade for a shortstop this season.

We asked the fans who they’d want to see the team trade for, so here are some of the responses, starting with Tim Anderson, who seemed to be the most popular option:

And this last Anderson vote is a perfect transition to the next guy who was popular, Willy Adames:

Here are some other options the fans gave, including Tommy Edman, Jorge Mateo and the struggling Javier Baez:

And one fan wants to see the Dodgers avoid the trade market, and go sign free agent shortstop Andrelton Simmons:

  1. I feel Detroit my want to dump the contract, so low level prospects and they eat some of the contract could work to get javy Baez. Playing on a better team could ignite him.

  2. Mookie should hold down the position until Lux returns. Anderson would be a great acquisition but needs to be done in conjunction with other moves to sort out the infield when Lux returns. Now is not the time to panic by grabbing some mediocre player to fill in.

  3. We have more outfielders than infielders (counting only those who are above .200). No need to trade and give up too many young players. Let Betts play SS assuming he can get the job done.

  4. Trade for Tim Anderson. The Sox #1 prospect is a shortstop so should be able to do a deal. Dodgers get s.s. T. Anderson & pitcher Cristian Mena.
White Sox get Michael Busch, pitchers Landon Knack & Andre’ Jackson & either Jorbit Vivas or Eddys Leonard.

  5. Adames would be amazing in LA, but there is no way the Brewers are letting him go… Tim Anderson would fit perfectly here.
