Dodgers: Former LA Reporter Shares Excitement For Stephen Nelson’s New Broadcasting Role
The Dodgers announced this week that they added Stephen Nelson as a part-time broadcaster, and the newcomer is already getting lots of support.
Former Dodgers reporter Alanna Rizzo tweeted her reaction to the news:
Nelson will call over 50 home and road games on television this upcoming season, as he will primarily fill in for Joe Davis. Davis has been occupied with his role as Fox Sport’s lead announcer, so now that Nelson is joining the team, this will alleviate some of his duties.
The 33-year-old has previously called games for Apple TV+ and YouTube and also has experience announcing for the NHL Network and NBC Sports. To add to his impressive resume, Nelson was also the co-host of “Intentional Talk’ with Kevin Millar.
Rizzo and Nelson were also co-workers at MLB Network as well. After working at MLB Network, Rizzo worked for SportsNet LA as a Dodgers Insider from 2013 to 2020 before Kirsten Watson took over during the 2021 season. After Rizzo’s time with the Boys in Blue, she returned back to MLB Network and currently works as a regular contributor to Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo’s High Heat show.
She along with many other LA fans are looking forward to Nelson’s debut with the Dodgers this upcoming Spring.
