Dodgers: Former Reliever Finds Home with Rays for Upcoming Season

Making it to the major leagues is one thing. But staying on an MLB team and also finding success is a whole different story.

Not everyone gets the fairytale story that every baseball player dreams of. The 15-year tenure with one team or several different accolades and awards across your career and landing a spot in the Hall of Fame.

For players who are trying to just make it onto the field each and every season, it can be both challenging but also so rewarding.

For Jaime Schultz, that dream might never become a reality.

Although it was short-lived, Schultz spent a year in the Dodgers system back in 2019. He threw five innings in the big leagues and 47.2 innings with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

But after that, the Dodgers released him. He was picked up by the Mariners in 2021 but never made it out of the minor leagues. He was then released in the fall before sitting out the 2022 season due to injury.

But according to the recent transactions page, the Tampa Bay Rays seem to be giving the right-handed pitcher another shot by signing him to a minor league contract.

Tampa Bay is where the 31-year-old got his major league debut back in 2018 and also the team who drafted him in 2013 out of High Point University in North Carolina.

That season, he posted a 5.64 ERA across 30 innings of work and finished with a 2-0 record. Although it’s been 3 years since the pitcher has stepped on the mound in the major leagues, he’s hoping to regain momentum with the team that first ignited his flame.

And although it didn’t work out for him here in Los Angeles, we still wish him the best and hope he can find success with the Rays’ organization.
