Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman and his wife, Chelsea Freeman, are donating $1 million to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, according to MLB insider Jeff Passan.

The hospital is where their son, Maximus, recovered after a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome, which left him in the pediatric intensive-care unit for more than a week last July.
“Seeing every room full in the PICU each and every day impacted Chelsea and I deeply,” Freeman told ESPN. “Getting to know the doctors, nurses and care teams and seeing how they show up each day to bring healing and hope to kids and their families was inspiring. CHOC saved Maximus’ life.”
The journey to the Fall Classic was arguably one of the most arduous and emotional periods for the Freeman family. In July, Freeman’s three-year-old son, Maximus, was in and out of the hospital soon after the All-Star break.
On Aug. 1, Freddie and Chelsea Freeman announced their son had been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome. A few days later, Freeman returned to the lineup and received a standing ovation from Dodgers fans during his first at-bat of the game.
Freeman reportedly considered retirement during his son’s health scare, but Maximus recently celebrated his fourth birthday in March.

Freddie makes a lot of money, but that’s still a very generous donation. He’s a class act and tip of my hat to he and his wife.
