Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman Believes He Could Reach Historic Milestone Before Career Ends

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Freddie Freeman hit the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history to decide Game 1 last October, and further cemented his legacy throughout the Fall Classic to clinch an eighth championship for his team.

He has followed that up in 2025 with an electric .362 batting average and an absurd 1.123 OPS. At 35 years old, Freeman spoke on another major accomplishment he wants to achieve that has only been done 33 times in MLB history.

Now Freeman is far from imminent retirement, but after 16 illustrious seasons, one can’t help but try and figure out what the rest of his professional baseball tenure will include.

He said to The Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett that he is chasing 3,000 career hits before it’s all said and done.

“It would mean a lot,” Freeman said. “I’ve always valued hits. I know hits and average have dwindled in value in analytics and all that. But I value it. If I hit .300 and I play every day that means, with the way I walk as well, I’m on base close to the upper 200s. That creates traffic. That creates stress and different things. So I value it.

“Obviously I’m 35 now. I’ll be 36 at the end of the year. So I’ve got less than a handful of years left. You do think about those type of things. But that’s not the forefront obviously. Winning is at the forefront for me. But if I’m on the field and I’m healthy, I believe in myself that potentially I have a good chance of making it.”

Manager Dave Roberts also spoke on the World Series MVP’s aptitude for looking to the record books.

“I honestly respect him saying he’s chasing 3,000,” Roberts said. “I don’t see anything wrong with chasing consistency. I think that’s great. You’re essentially saying, ‘Yeah, I’m chasing being really good for four more years.’ What’s wrong with that? There’s nothing wrong with that.”

At 2,309 career hits, he would have to average 173 hits a year for the next four seasons to join the 3,000 club. He already has 42 hits in 2025 and with his National League leading batting average, he is showing no signs of slowing down.

“He’ll get there. He will absolutely get there. There’s no doubt in my mind,” Roberts said.
