Dodgers Free Agent Signs With Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox announced that they signed former Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Andre Lipcius to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Lipcius and the Dodgers parted ways after only one year of working together.

Lipcius spent the entire 2024 season with Triple-A Oklahoma City after the Dodgers acquired him from the Detroit Tigers. He put together a solid performance with a .271/.351/.458 slash line over 140 games. He hit 25 home runs, drove in 89 RBIs, and struck out 145 times. Despite his strong showing, he never received a call-up to the Dodgers, though there were numerous times throughout the year when fans were calling for him to get a chance.

Lipcius is returning to the AL Central, where he has spent much of his career. The Tigers selected him in the third round of the 2019 draft, and the Tennessee native made his major league debut with Detroit at the end of the 2023 season, posting a .286/.342/.400 line in 13 games.

However, the Tigers removed him from the 40-man roster last winter, eventually trading him to the Dodgers. Just before Opening Day, the Dodgers outrighted him.

Despite his limited MLB experience, Lipcius is a reasonable depth option for the White Sox. In more than 1,200 Triple-A plate appearances, he has posted a .276/.360/.444 slash line.

While he doesn’t hit for a lot of power — his home run total in 2024 was boosted by the Pacific Coast League — he demonstrates strong strike zone discipline.

Although he primarily played third base in college at the University of Tennessee and throughout much of his time in the Detroit system, he spent most of his 2024 season at first base with Oklahoma City, with some experience at second base as well.
