Dodgers: Gavin Lux and Corey Seager Discuss Lux’s Stellar Debut

Dodgers top prospect middle infielder Gavin Lux made his MLB debut on Monday night against the Colorado Rockies, going 2-for-5 with three runs and a double. He looked poised throughout the night, both at the plate and defensively at the keystone.

Lux discussed his debut with Michael J. Duarte of NBC Los Angeles:

Lux on Debut

Lux was obviously heavily questioned by reporters regarding his thoughts and feelings on his major league debut with the Dodgers and he responded with enthusiasm:

“Obviously it was my debut so I was nervous. After the first ground ball and first at-bat it was like the weight got off my shoulders a little bit.”

The 21-year-old top prospect also discussed how he felt stepping onto the field for the first time at Dodger Stadium:

“It was a little bit emotional, honestly. The fans showed me a little bit of love, so that was good. It was emotional to be honest with you.”

Throughout Lux’s debut, the Sports Net LA broadcast showed Lux’s parents in the bleachers and at times, they both showed emotion. For good reason. Lux responded to the love his parents demonstrated on Monday night:

“I saw a video of my first hit and my dad started crying. I thought he was tough guy and out of all of them, I thought he would be the one to not do that.”

When asked about how much his family means to this day?:

“A ton. The sacrifices they have made for me over the years. A lot of time, a lot of money, and a lot of support. For me, they have been my rock and just being out there and being able to do it for them is a cool feeling.”

Special Moment for the Lux Family

Another special moment captured by Duarte — Lux reuniting with his family members after a stellar record-setting debut:

Corey Seager Discusses Gavin Lux

Starting shortstop Corey Seager was asked about the debut of Lux and here were his thoughts with Alanna Rizzo of Sports Net LA:

“He looked really good. He looked really comfortable and that is what it is about — making him feel as comfortable as possible. You get the first one out of the way and you can relax a little bit, but it was a lot of fun to watch him play tonight.”

Overall

Lux’s debut was not just record-breaking — he became the first player in the Live-Ball Era to score three runs or more in their Dodgers debut — it was special. It was special not just for Gavin Lux himself, but for his family, the fans in Los Angeles, and his teammates.

Daniel Preciado

My name is Daniel Preciado and I am 19 years old. I am a sophomore Sport Analytics major and Cognitive Science and Economics dual minor at Syracuse University. When I am not in New York, I live in Whittier, California --- not too far from Chavez Ravine. I am pretty old-school for being an analytics guy and I will always embrace debate. Also, Chase Utley did absolutely nothing wrong.

That is so right! Welcome to to the family Gavin! Wishing you the best!

  2. After seeing some video here and elsewhere, Lux seems to be a good kid, very appreciative of where he is and how he got there. Along with JT, Kersh, and Corey, Gavin has joined my list of favorite Dodgers.

  3. Lux at 2nd, Muncy and Beaty at first with Freese subbing. Taylor 3rd Seager short, solid infield. Kiki and Taylor backing up all over can’t get much better! Bellinger in center, Pollack Pederson Taylor and Kiki or Beaty solid. It’s up to the pitching. Go Blue!!
