Dodgers: Gavin Lux Jokingly Blames Freddie Freeman For His Awkward Slide

The Dodgers had just about as successful an Opening Day as you could’ve asked for. Everyone seems to have come out of it healthy, the bats came alive to keep them in it, the bullpen did some great work, and they earned the win. What more could you want?

Lost in the excitement of Opening Day and a win was the performance of Gavin Lux. He drove in a pair of runs with a single in the 4th inning and would eventually come around to score. But it’s that run scored that has everyone talking, including the payers.

If you haven’t seen it already, Lux took an odd route to home rounding the bases. The Dodgers’ second baseman slid into home after the relay throw was bobbled, and well…it wasn’t exactly the most graceful.

After the game, SportsNet LA’s Kirstin Watson asked Gavin about that slide. And he jokingly put the blame onto Freddie Freeman for his awkward run scored.

“I stumbled around second, get to third, stumble around third, and then I see Freddie hitting me with the ‘down, down, down’. And I’m like stumbling still, so I kind of just belly-flopped onto homeplate. Everyone thought it was funny and I couldn’t catch my breath. It’s all fun and games though, that’s sport who cares.”

He’s right, it is all fun and games now that the Dodger walked away with the win. And while his slide might not have been nearly as smooth as Trea Turner’s, it was a really fun moment during the game. His performance during this one can also help him laugh it off.
