Dodgers: Gavin Lux Recalled, Mitch White Optioned

The Dodgers are making some moves ahead of the trade deadline this week, though none outside of the organization. After he made his big league debut on Friday, Mitch White was optioned by the team back to the alternate location/taxi squad.

The move was made by the Dodgers in order to recall Gavin Lux back from the taxi squad. Lux made an appearance during Thursday’s doubleheader as the 29th man added to the roster. He struck out twice in his one game and was optioned after the game as Dave Roberts had previously said would happen.

The Dodgers have been without a true starting second baseman for the whole season. Hernandez and Taylor have rotated starts mostly, with Max Muncy also mixing in to get at-bats as well. It’s not yet clear how the team plans to utilize Lux moving forward. He recently crushed a pair of homeruns in a taxi squad game, causing fans to wonder why he already wasn’t up on the big league team.

Looking Forward

The Dodgers will play two more games in Texas this weekend before heading back home to Los Angeles. They will then play a six-game homestand against the Rockies and Diamondbacks before hitting the road again.

The Dodgers dropped the first game of their series against the Rangers on Friday night.

Dodgers: How Fans Feel the Team Should Approach the Trade Deadline

  1. The Dodgers are in the playoffs. There is no reward for a division winner so the Dodgers should spend the time developing their players for a hopefully long run to the WS.
They say Lux is the real deal if so play him. Hernandez and Taylor are not hitting well at 2nd anyway. It is one of the least offensive spots on the Dodgers. Let the young man play and see if he can hit. The only concern would be to have him dramatically fail and ruin him mentally this has happened to some players in the past.

  2. I say play him these two games in Texas. He’s coming out hot from where ever he was and showing off, lets see if he hits in the Majors. Hot dogs come & go and I hate to see the Dodgers hang on to one that’s good in minors but can’t hit a lick in the majors.

  3. If Hernandez and Taylor are not hitting well at 2nd then why is Muncy starting everyday whether it’s 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Take a look at his average. It’s worse than both of them. Even Joc’s average is better than Muncy with less ABs. Obviously they don’t want either Kike or Chris to play 2nd and waiting to hand Lux the position and setting them up for failure. Other starters struggle yet they still play everyday but with Kike they said he had his chance when he sits 2 or 3 games in a row. Others are out only when they need a rest.
