In the Cactus League matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the new instant replay rule was in play for the first time in the Dodgers’ spring.

It didn’t take too long for the new rule to be utilized in a play involving the team. In the bottom of the first inning, Angels’ center fielder Mike Trout hit a line drive to left-center field that Dodgers’ center fielder Yasiel Puig dove for and missed. Puig raced to the wall to get the ball, as Trout raced around the bases looking for an inside-the-park home run.

Puig picked the ball up near the wall and fired a strike to shortstop Hanley Ramirez who then threw the ball to A.J. Ellis at home plate to nail Trout for the second out of the inning. Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia came out to ask for a review of the play at the plate. About two minutes later, the out was confirmed and Dan Haren went on to finish the inning.
